چکیده

We propose an intensity-dependent pion-nucleon coupling Hamiltonian within a unitary multiparticle-production model of the Auerbach-Avin-Blankenbecler-Sugar (AABS) type in which the pion field is represented by the thermal-density matrix. Using this Hamiltonian, we explain the appearance of the negative-binomial (NB) distribution for pions and the well-known empirical relation, the so-called Wróblewski relation, in which the dispersion D of the pion-multiplicity distribution is linearly related to the average multiplicity < n > : D = A < n > +B, with the coefficient A related to the vacuum energy of the pion field and < 1 . The Hamiltonian of our model is expressed linearly in terms of the generators of the SU(1, 1) group. We also find the generating function for the pion field. All higher-order thermal moments can be calculated from this function. At T = 0 it reduces to the generating function of the NB distribution. e-mail address: [email protected] e-mail address: [email protected]

Need for the intensity-dependent pion-nucleon coupling in multipion production processes

We give reasons in support of the use of an effective intensity-dependent pion-nucleon coupling Hamiltonian for describing the properties of the pion multiplicity distribution and the corresponding factorial moments within the thermal-density matrix approach. We explain the appearance of the negative-binomial (NB) distribution for pions and the well-known empirical relation of Wróblewski . Our ...

Counting pions in the nucleon

The number of pions in the nucleon is a theoretical concept and its value is model dependent. It is, however, a useful tool to understand the pionic contribution to several nucleon observables such as electric charge radii, magnetic moments, axial charge, pion-nucleon coupling constant, amplitudes for electroexcitation of baryon resonances and electroproduction of pions above such resonances.

Comment on "Taming the pion cloud of the nucleon".

In a recent Letter, Alberg and Miller (AM) [1] presented a calculation of the pion contributions to the selfenergy of the nucleon, in an attempt to better constrain the role of the pion cloud in the d̄ − ū asymmtry in the proton sea. The self-energy Σ was computed from a pseudoscalar (PS) pion–nucleon interaction (ψ̄Nγ5~τψN · ~ φπ), with the claim that the result would be equivalent to that with ...

Isospin Violation in the Two–nucleon System

I discuss isospin violation in an effective field theory appraoch of the nucleon– nucleon interaction. The observed leading order charge independence breaking is explained in terms of one–pion exchange together with a four–nucleon contact term. A general classification scheme of corrections to this leading order results is presented and an explanation is offered why charge–dependent pion–nucleo...
